In the final Land Mobile of 2021, we take time to reflect on how communications technology is helping to make the workplace safer during a time of - seemingly never-ending – stress and uncertainty.

In the final Land Mobile of 2021, we take time to reflect on how communications technology is helping to make the workplace safer during a time of - seemingly never-ending – stress and uncertainty.

This focus begins on page 16 with a feature looking at the use of body worn video in the retail space. According to the British Retail Consortium, BWV is becoming an “increasingly useful tool” against crime taking place on the shop floor, particularly with attacks on employees currently at record levels.

This theme continues just a few pages later with an article looking at the development and deployment of lone worker technology for employees within the public sector. Responsibilities on what might be considered the local authority ‘front line’ have increased exponentially since the beginning of the pandemic, but, as our report makes clear, these specialist solutions are more than keeping pace.

Head to the ‘big interview’ section (page 12) meanwhile, for the next in a series of features looking at the ongoing evolution of 5G for business. Whereas previously we’ve examined the user and developer perspective however, November’s interview with Ericsson strategy and market development director, Jason Johur, focusses squarely on the market.

Finally, skip to the back of the magazine for a report on the always much-anticipated Emergency Services Network content, delivered at BAPCO’s annual event in October. ESN has been a somewhat troubled project up until now, but – at least according to the presentations from the Home Office -, there might now be cause for genuine optimism.
